Mad Brook is a working New England homestead set among gardens, fields and rolling countryside in Central Massachusetts. It offers something unusual for a furnished stay: the character and tranquility of rural life, the comforts of a beautiful home, and a genuinely dedicated professional workspace.
Your private upstairs space includes a large bedroom with hardwood floors and ample storage, a private en suite bathroom with walk-in shower and heated towel rack, and a separate room devoted entirely to your office. The office is equipped with a large desk, ergonomic chair, large curved monitor and printer—ideal for remote work, writing, research or an extended workation. Guests also have a second private full bathroom on the main floor.
The shared areas of the house include a large gourmet kitchen designed for serious cooking, a separate dining room and a comfortable living room with wood-burning fireplace. In cooler weather, the wood stove beside the kitchen breakfast table becomes one of the coziest places in the house.
Outside, you'll find a wraparound porch, mature gardens, open fields and views across the surrounding hills. The hot tub is available year-round, and during the warmer months guests can enjoy the heated saltwater pool and landscaped pool area.
Mad Brook is genuinely a working homestead—not simply a rural house. Chickens live here, food is grown in the gardens, and daily life changes with the seasons. Guests who are curious are welcome to experience some of homestead life with me when appropriate.
I live at Mad Brook and spend much of my day working elsewhere on the property, tending gardens and animals or making deliveries. As a result, guests generally have the main living areas to themselves. I'm available when you need me and happy to share the homestead with interested guests; otherwise, I'll leave you to work, relax and enjoy your stay independently.
Two French Bulldogs live in the house, so guests should be comfortable with dogs.
Despite its peaceful rural setting, Mad Brook is well positioned for exploring Central Massachusetts and western New England. Worcester is approximately 30–35 minutes away, Amherst about 50 minutes, Northampton about an hour and Boston approximately 1½ hours. Hiking, orchards, historic New England towns, ski resorts, and other seasonal recreation are all within easy driving distance.
Whether you're coming for five days of focused remote work, spending several weeks in New England, or looking for an unusual home for a month or longer, Mad Brook offers something difficult to find in a conventional furnished rental: a place where you can live and work comfortably while experiencing the rhythms of a real New England homestead.
